Social Media Strategies: Promotion/ selling

In todays lesson we were discussing Social media strategy's and the three elements-  engagement, story telling and promotion/selling. In this task we had to create examples of each element including captions. Our teacher also gave us some tips in how to make the captions more interesting.

The reason for doing this task is to help us in our A2 music video project when we develop our social media strategy for the promotion of our artist. Our teach explained the importance of social media in todays world. He also explained the significance of the balance of each element i.e 50% on engagement, 30% story telling and 20% promotion selling.

What is promotion/selling?

This is directly selling an album, event, merchandise etc. It is important to take into consideration that people dont want feel hustled or over pushed. Hence, this should be no more than 20% of the social media.

Social Media Strategies: Storytelling

In todays lesson we were discussing Social media strategy's and the three elements-  engagement, story telling and promotion/selling. In this task we had to create examples of each element including captions. Our teacher also gave us some tips in how to make the captions more interesting.

What is storytelling?

This is expressing an emotional journey showing how the artist has developed. Showing key moments such as recording their album in the studio, family history and how they started in music. One is trying to bring along the audience and for them to understand the artist better.

Social Media Strategies: Engagement

In todays lesson we were discussing Social media strategy's and the three elements-  engagement, story telling and promotion/selling. In this task we had to create examples of each element including captions. Our teacher also gave us some tips in how to make the captions more interesting.

What is engagement?

Engagement is about creating a connection with your target audience. This can be done by using different  memes, fun pictures or anything that catches the eye and encourages users to use the site. This is not about obviously selling the merchandise or Artist.

Unsigned Artists

 Unsigned Artists

An unsigned artists is an artist that works independently and ‘is not under a contract or record deal’. This can also be the case for bands. A band may release their own material by themselves. They are called unsigned bands.

How can unsigned artists promote their songs without a contract?

The internet is a very useful tool for unsigned artist as this is a good way to promote the material and themselves. Often unsigned artists will post their music on an MP3 or on a website, to try and attract attention.

‘In 2016, the Unsigned Music Awards was established in the UK as the first ever televised international awards ceremony to champion artists without the backing of a record label.’
